Well-known for its Côtes de Duras reds and sweet whites, the town runs along a high spur overlooking the thoughtfully-named Dropt valley. It’s said to be the only town in France never to have built a Catholic church (the present one is a former Protestant church).
Chateau visits are excellent value both for the architecture and the high-tech-media explanatory show.
Museum of Parchment and Illumination.
