River Garonne ( :J.M.-CDT47) |
+ |
The Garonne rises in the Val d’Aran in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Flowing due north until Toulouse, where the Garonne turns sharp left and heads off for Agen and beyond, the river widens and deepens in the Aquitaine basin where it is joined by the river Dordogne to form the Gironde Estuary before mingling its waters with the Atlantic Ocean at Bordeaux.
In Lot-and-Garonne, only 4.5 km are navigable, between St Léger and Nicole, the junction between the Baïse and the Lot.
