The Liars Academy in full garb

Based in the village of Montcrabeau, the Montcrabeau Academy of Liars (Académié des Menteurs de Montcrabeau) was founded in 1748. It’s charter lays out the membership profile : « All braggers, boasters, liars, story-tellers and other individuals who practice the fine art of clever lying and whose goal is to bring prejudice to nothing but the truth, their sworn enemy » !
The Academicians dress is a red robe with wide white sleeves and a white head dress for women, and a red robe, small white cape and a red hat for the men.
To show how tongue-in-cheek seriously the members take all this, their top dignitaries are called Grand Master, Grand Chancellor, Officer of the Seal, Marquis of Boasting, and the Arch Chancellor.
Their oath is « I swear to parody the truth, the whole truth and nothing put the truth ». Their annual celebration and World Liars’ Competition attracts locals, visitors and grand celebrities, much like the wine Fraternities and their colourful « enthronement » festivities.
If, after all that, you still believe it, the first Sunday in August is Montcrabeau’s big day.
