To drive down from, say, Paris will take some 6 or 7 hours, the quickest route being via the autoroute to Bordeaux, then on to the Toulouse autoroute to Agen.
For those who prefer leaving their car at home, consider flying directly to Bordeaux or Toulouse, then hiring a car at the airport, if you have not reserved one beforehand.

Remember that low-cost flight now land at Bergerac in the Dordogne, while coach travel is also a cheaper way of coming, with 2 coaches a week from Victoria Station to Cahors, Bordeaux and, in summer, Périgueux.
Coming from Britain by Eurostar means changing main line stations at Paris before catching the TGV to Bordeaux and Agen. Ask your travel agent which Discount Rail fare package you may be entitled to, particularly if you book over two months in advance.
