The other Brandy

A stall on a local market will display bottles of "Eau de vie de Prune d'Ente", "Pruneaux à l'Armagnac", and "Vieille Armagnac", all matured in oak and sold at the farm. For the record, Armagnac is in fact France’s oldest brandy, first mentioned in 1461.

The distillation of this delicious brandy was the result of a combination of cultures and techniques: Roman for the vines, Arab for the stills and Celtic for the barrels. Add to this the particular soil, climate and oak available and you obtain half the ingredients for making Armagnac. The other half is made up of closely guarded savoir faire.

A typical lunch could consist of a snack of foie gras, salade aux gésiers with walnuts, soufflé maison, magret de canard, and a choice of about 10 sorbets, not to mention the bottle of delicious Buzet red.
